Babinda Sugar Mill

Southern Cross was awarded this contract in 2013 by Maryborough Sugar Factory (MSF). The contract required the entire mill to be dismantled and removed, concrete foundations to be extracted and the 30 hectare site to be remediated, levelled and re-grassed.

Over eight thousand tonne of steel was recycled during the project along with the removal of hazardous materials such as Friable and Non-Friable Asbestos Contaminated Materials (ACM), Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs), Caustic Soda, Zinc, Lead, Coal Tar and Molasses. During the works many climatic weather challenges were experienced from the Far North Qld wet seasons and several tropical cyclone threats.
