Wagga Wagga Hospital

Wagga Wagga Hospital

This NSW Health Infrastructure project being an eight storey hi-rise building was completed in 2016 for Hansen Yuncken.

Due to the concrete floor slabs of the hospital only being rated to that of a residential dwelling the top 5 levels of the structure were required to be propped and demolished from top down using an 8T excavator with pulveriser. Once the building was to a suitable height, larger excavators where then positioned to carefully demolish the remaining portion of the building to ground floor. During the demolition works it was critical that the suspended ground floor slab remained intact to prevent debris material from entering the basement due to asbestos soil contamination that was identified during the works. Once the structure was removed the suspended ground slab was carefully removed to allow for remediation works. In total approximately 800 tonnes of Friable & Bonded Asbestos material were removed during the works.

All brick and concrete material from the project was tested and crushed to allow it to be reused as a renewable resource for the backfilling of the site.
